Latent Labs, a London and San Francisco-based biotech startup, has raised Β£40m in a Series A round co-led by Radical Ventures and Sofinnova Partners, with participation from Flying Fish, Isomer, 8VC, Kindred Capital, and Pillar VC. Founded by Simon Kohl, a former DeepMind scientist involved in the Nobel Prize-winning AlphaFold project, the company is developing AI foundation models to make biology programmable, with a focus on generative protein design.
Latent Labsβ platform enables biotech and pharmaceutical companies to computationally design new therapeutic molecules, such as antibodies and enzymes, improving drug discovery timelines and success rates. The company has assembled a team with experience from DeepMind, Microsoft, Google, Stability AI, Exscientia, Mammoth Bio, and Altos Labs. The new funding will support the expansion of its AI capabilities and experimental validation in its lab facilities.
