Barton Blakeley, a Harpenden-based carbon utilisation company, has raised £2.4 million in a seed round led by Elbow Beach Capital. Founded by Christopher Barton, the company has developed HYPER Xi, a technology that captures industrial CO2 emissions and converts them into clean energy and synthetic silica.
The process not only reduces the carbon intensity of silica production—a $500 billion global market—but also cuts manufacturing costs. Barton Blakeley’s modular sites can be installed on industrial premises to capture emissions directly, with each system expected to remove 1,000 tonnes of CO2 annually.
The funding will support the deployment of the technology at an industrial scale, marking a significant step towards commercialisation. The company aims to diversify its offerings and expand into new markets, positioning itself as a disruptor in carbon-intensive industries.
